The Santos de Cartier in steel and blue is the contemporary, sportier face of Cartier's oldest wristwatch. The Santos was created in 1904 for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, and its squared case, rounded corners and exposed bezel screws have been recognisable ever since. This reference brings that design into cooler territory: a blue PVD bezel over the steel case, with the screws picked out against it.

The grey striated dial carries blue Roman numerals and a minute track to match the bezel, with steel sword-shaped hands, luminous markers, and the date at 6 o'clock. The seven-sided crown is set with a faceted blue synthetic spinel, the Cartier flash of colour that finishes the design. The case is 39.8mm, the large model, and water resistant to 100 metres behind a sapphire crystal.

Inside is Cartier's Manufacture calibre 1847 MC, an automatic movement running at 28,800 vibrations an hour with around 42 hours of power reserve. It comes with two straps, a steel bracelet with Cartier's SmartLink system for resizing by hand and a blue rubber strap, both swapped without tools through the QuickSwitch system, so the watch changes character in seconds.
