The Louis Vuitton x Virgil Abloh Mini Soft Trunk in Sahara Himalayan crocodile is one of the rarest pieces from Abloh's tenure at Louis Vuitton. It takes the Mini Soft Trunk, the boxy, chain-handled bag Abloh introduced for his Spring-Summer 2019 debut, and executes it in Himalayan crocodile, the exotic treatment better known from the world's most coveted Birkins. This one is finished with matte black hardware and the signature chain, dated 2019.
The "Himalayan" name comes from the dyeing technique, which grades the crocodile skin from a smoky grey to a creamy white, echoing snow on a mountain peak. It is one of the hardest finishes to achieve, with a high rejection rate, so very few skins make it through, and fewer still on a piece as small and precise as the Mini Soft Trunk. The result is a collision of streetwear silhouette and the most rarefied exotic leather, which is exactly why it sits in auction houses rather than boutiques. It measures 17 by 25 by 9 cm, is lined in black leather, and holds a phone, cards, and small essentials, worn on the shoulder or carried as a clutch.
This piece is exotic crocodile and, as an endangered-species material, is subject to CITES regulations, cross-border shipping requires the relevant permits and documentation.
