The Louis Vuitton Vertical Soft Trunk in Monogram Tuffetage is a piece from Virgil Abloh's Fall 2020 collection, and the yellow is the whole story. Rather than printing or dyeing, Louis Vuitton used traditional tufting: contrasting yellow textile thread is stitched over the brown Monogram canvas so the pattern stands up off the surface in three dimensions, with a soft, velvet-smooth feel. It is the same Tuffetage technique seen on the trunk-shaped pieces from that season, applied here to a vertical bag.
The shape borrows from Louis Vuitton's trunks but stands upright and compact, with black leather trim and a long strap of matte black chain links. A top zip opens to a black fabric interior with a patch pocket, sized for a phone, cards, and small essentials. It works worn cross-body on the chain or carried in the hand as a clutch.
