The Louis Vuitton Monogram Tuffetage Trunk in green is a limited piece from Virgil Abloh's 2020 work for Louis Vuitton. Tuffetage is a tufting technique, so the Monogram canvas is quilted and padded into a raised, three-dimensional version of the usual flat pattern, here in an unusual green with matching green hardware. It is a trunk in shape, a small, hand-scale case rather than a large travel or display trunk.
The texture is the whole point: where standard Monogram is printed flat on coated canvas, the Tuffetage version adds the tufted relief on top, which is slower and more involved to make and is why these pieces are rare. It is built like a miniature trunk, with trunk-style corners and a structured body, sized to hold small essentials rather than to pack for travel. The green colourway makes it one of the more distinctive versions, since most collectors only ever see the brown.
