Description
The Laurent Ferrier Galet Square Dubai Edition is one of the rarest watches you can own: a limited run of just seven pieces, made exclusively for Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, Dubai's historic watch house. Laurent Ferrier is among the most respected names in independent watchmaking, the brand of a man who spent 37 years as technical director at Patek Philippe before founding his own house, and everything he makes is produced in tiny numbers with movement finishing that collectors regard as among the finest anywhere.
The design is defined by restraint. "Galet" means pebble in French, and the Galet Square is a soft cushion-shaped case, rounded and tactile rather than hard-edged, here in 41mm steel with the brand's large partly-recessed crown. The dial is a mesmerising mint green with no indices at all, just the signature Laurent Ferrier "assegai" white-gold hands and a small-seconds sub-dial floating in the open expanse of colour, a purist's layout that lets the dial and finishing speak for themselves.
Through the sapphire caseback is the in-house automatic calibre FBN 229.01, with a pawl-fitted micro-rotor, a silicon escapement with double direct impulse, and a three-day power reserve, all hand-finished to Laurent Ferrier's exceptional standard. It is worn on a black alligator strap with green stitching that echoes the dial. As a seven-piece Dubai exclusive, this is about as regionally significant and collectible as modern watchmaking gets.
